Deer on the Island of Arran Autumn Colours on Lochgoilhead Venison on the menu

Departing from Holy Loch, near Dunoon, aboard the Glen Massan, the itinerary stretches from the spectacular sea lochs of the Cowal Peninsula and the Kyles of Bute to the Islands of Bute, Cumbrae and Arran. Anchorages are chosen which have the best autumn colours and the best opportunity of spotting wildlife. The slopes on both sides of the sea lochs are heavily forested and the scenery is spectacular in Autumn. Meals aboard this cruise will feature the excellent seasonal Argyll produce available in October, venison from the hill and free range pork and beef as well as seasonal fruit and vegetables, complemented by locally produced cheeses, smoked fish and shellfish and many other gourmet delights.

Typical stopovers and anchorages:

  • Picturesque Carrick Castle in Loch Long, keeping an eye out for otters and porpoises
  • Caladh Harbour, Kyles of Bute for a delightful shore walk, help the crew drop lobster pots and a popular haunt of basking sharks
  • Tignabruaich, a very pretty village in a stunning forested setting with art galleries and shops to visit
  • The town of Inveraray at the head of Loch Fyne, with walks and a good chance of spotting red squirrels
  • The fishing village of Tarbert where the catch is sold on the quay
  • Lochranza on the Island of Arran, where deer are frequently seen and an option to visit Arran Distillery
  • Brodick Town and Castle on the Island of Arran with lots of speciality producers to visit
  • A selection of remote, idyllic anchorages, chosen by the skipper depending on wind and tide, to show off the best autumn scenery
