Cruising Area

Our vessel cruises past the Island of Kerrera which shelters Oban Bay, through the Firth of Lorn to Mull with a choice of inlets to anchor for the first dinner on board.    The Sound of Mull is a tranquil waterway between Mull and the mainland, en route to the colourful town of Tobermory.  Given favourable wind conditions it is possible to cruise around the top of Mull to the wonderful sands of Calgary Bay and onwards to the Treshnish Isles, Fingals cave on Staffa and the small islands of Gometra and Ulva; the whole area is a paradise for wildlife.  The Island of Iona is also within reach.  Given poor weather conditions, the cruise itinerary may instead take in the spectacular sheltered sea lochs of Sunart and Linnhe as an alternative to part of the cruise. There are many options for cruising and shore stops; the actual itinerary will be at the discretion of the Skipper taking into account guests wishes and the prevailing weather conditions.  Typical highlights of this cruise are:

Typical stopovers and anchorages:

•    Drop anchor in Duart Bay to the dramatic backdrop of Duart Castle, keeping an eye out for dolphins and otters
•    Duart Castle and Torosay House and Gardens
•    Tobermory with its historic buildings, speciality shops and woodland walks
•    Calgary bay and a walk on the sands; another good spot for dolphins
•    The Treshnish Isles and other exquisite small islands to get close to rare birdlife
•    Fingal’s cave on the boat tender for an unforgettable view of the rock formations
•    The magical Island of Iona and its Abbey
•    Anchor in Loch Spelve while the chef goes to the Mussel Farm to buy Mussels for dinner!
