Cruising area

Departing from Holy Loch, near Dunoon, the Glen Massan visits the spectacular sea lochs of the Cowal Peninsula including Loch Goil, Loch Long and Loch Fyne, teeming with wildlife. The coastal landscape has the Highland character of mountains and glens, but is also very lush with rich farmland and large tracts of forest. The Kyles of Bute is a stunningly beautiful landscape of sea, coast and islands and is a favourite choice for an overnight stop with the opportunity to call into the Isle of Bute. The Islands of Arran and Cumbrae are well within reach. Throughout the itinerary there are picturesque villages and historic buildings to provide a variety of interesting shore stops.

Typical stopovers and anchorages:

• Picturesque Carrick Castle in Loch Long, keeping an eye out for otters and porpoises
• Secluded Loch Riddon, accessed from the Kyles of Bute for a delightful shore walk or help the crew drop lobster pots
• Tighnabruaich, a very pretty village with art galleries and shops
• The scenic town of Inveraray and its castle at the head of Loch Fyne
• The fishing village of Tarbert where the catch is still sold on the quay
• Rothesay Town with its ancient castle on the Isle of Bute
• Fabulous Mount Stuart house and gardens on the Isle of Bute
• Lochranza on the Island of Arran with a visit to the Arran Distillery
• Brodick Town and Castle on the Island of Arran with lots of speciality producers to visit
• Holy Island at the tip of Arran, home to monks, wild horses and wild goats
• The "Cathedral of the Isles" on the Island of Cumbrae
