The defining features of the Cowal Peninsula are the series of dramatic sea lochs and the beautiful Kyles of Bute.  Together they provide idyllic sheltered waters for cruising and a haven for wildlife, which is remote by land but easily accessed from the sea.  Remarkable historic buildings and attractive traditional communities complete the fascinating and scenic coastline of this little known area.

Typical Cruise highlights

Loch Goil
: A sheltered sea loch with lots of bird life including gannets, ducks and cormorants.  The scenic anchorage off Carrick Castle is perfect for watching out for the seals and porpoises that swim in the loch

Mount Stuart House and Gardens:  Home to the Stuarts of Bute, Britains finest Gothic revival mansion sits proudly on the Island of Bute, ancient stronghold of Scottish Kings.  There is also the opportunity to visit ancient Rothesay castle

Kyles of Bute and Loch Riddon: This remote and beautiful area is rich in birdlife.  A delightful anchorage at Caladh harbour allows a trip ashore for a one-way walk to the pretty village of Tighnabruaich.  Loch Riddon is another perfect spot to anchor, with the opportunity to go ashore for a stroll on its banks.

Tarbet, Loch Fyne: Loch Fyne is the largest of the sea lochs, where otters and porpoises are regularly seen as well as a large variety of birds. Stop off at the picturesque fishing village of Tarbet and take a walk to the ruins of 13th century Tarbet Castle for splendid views to the sea.
