Outer Hebrides Explorer

Lesley and Stuart King

Having sailed with Majestic for the first time two years ago, we were a touch apprehensive accepting a second booking this year, in case this cruise would not be as good as our first. We had absolutely no need to worry, as this time was even better and honestly – our best holiday ever. We are both in our 60s, so that is going-some!

Our fellow passengers were a really interesting, mixed bunch from Australasia and various parts of the UK – so we all had some really interesting and frequently excruciatingly funny experiences and stories to share. Sometimes, we laughed until we ached!

However, the success was in no small part down to the care and attention of the Guillemot Crew, who were just wonderful. They worked very hard as a professional, well-oiled team; at all times ensuring we were safe, well-fed, entertained and nothing was ever too much trouble.

We feel fortunate to have travelled in this 'Scottish Year of Food and Drink' – as we definitely enjoyed our food on board – both gaining weight! Michael took time to discuss dietary requirements before we set-sail, which was very much appreciated and reassuring. His menus were so interesting and focused on the lovely, wide variety of everything Scottish that we love. His nightly cheese boards were legendary.

Captain David and Purser - wife Michelle are two lovely people, who epitomised the Majestic Line ethos – relaxed professionalism while creating a ‘house-party’ atmosphere which worked so well. David consulted us on the daily itinerary as promised, so we felt included and understood the his reasoning behind some variations etc.

Chief Engineer Daren was so proud of his below-stairs ‘domain’ – especially pleased to show us round a very tidy and well maintained engine room. He was just charming when helping at table and a dab-hand with the tender!

We enjoyed particularly good weather while visiting some amazingly beautiful places on this cruise and felt very fortunate to see so much wild life - including a huge range of sea birds - the highlight being the Puffins and Sea Eagles; dolphins who swam alongside the boat, seal pups and Basking Sharks.

We sailed around 350 nautical miles over the 13 days and had an absolutely wonderful time – with many memories to treasure and look forward to our next cruise with The Majestic Line!
