Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal

Vicky Tone

Last month we took our third holiday with the Majestic Line, which speaks volumes in itself! With the combination of breathtaking scenery, exciting wild life and of course incredible food...who could ask for more? The crew aboard the Glen Massan led by Skipper Martin quickly became our "new best friends" as they were all so kind and helpful and worked hard to make our 6 day trip perfect.

We travelled from Inverness to Fort William via several lochs and many locks, and finally over to the Isle of Mull. There we moored for the last night just near a mussel farm, which provided us with a crustacean feast.

During the 6 days there was plenty of opportunity to hop ashore and walk along the Caledonian Canal, which was very interesting watching the lock system and how it worked. We also visited the extensive ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness and when over on Mull we had the chance to visit the inhabited Duart Castle.

The autumn colours were so beautiful and on the hillsides we saw....and heard stags rutting. We were lucky enough to see white tailed eagles and porpoises ( actually perhaps they were dolphins)

There were so many high lights of the holiday but for me it was Michael's cheeses. Every evening there was great excitement as he brought in the two cheese boards and described the four cheeses to us. Of the twenty four I only knew three of them!

Once again Majestic Line you did us proud. It was such a good holiday we will certainly be seeing you all another time. Thank you from Robin and Vicky Toone.
